We needed an enormously high number of computers to run this operation, but we only needed them during the 9-5 Monday through Friday business periods. Instead of purchasing 200 computers at market value, then placing them into a traditional datacenter, we choose to use a Cloud Computing grid instead.

The savings were unbelievable. We were able to use only what we needed, so we used 200 computers during the 9-5 Monday through Friday time period and then reduced that to 1 computer during the other hours of the day. This left 128 hours per week that we did not have to pay for computers to sit idle. Ultimately we saved more than 75% of the costs that would have been spent on a traditional hosting solution.

Since this successful introduction to Cloud Computing, ASA has been a pioneer on Cloud Hosting and today we operate a complete Cloud Hosting operating on Amazon's EC2 Cloud. This partnership allows us to leverage the massive investment that Amazon has made on Cloud Computing while still delivering the same level of quality that our traditional hosting solutions have in the past.
